This award winning heritage centre is situated approximately 5 miles from Clifden - Connemara’s capital. It offers a unique insight into the history and heritage of this most beautiful part of the West. A multi-lingual audiovisual introduces the history of the area and tells the story of Dan O’Hara. Dan’s cottage and farm has been restored and his illustrates life in Connemara before the famine. Animals on the farm include Connemara ponies, donkeys, cattle and sheep. Visitors can also step back in time a visit a Crannóg, (pre-historic lake dwelling) Ringfort and Clocahaun (early Christian Oratory). Guided tours of the centre are available by prior appointment and are both entertaining and educational. Demonstrations of Turf Cutting, Shearing, Thatching and other activities are available. Other facilities include Craft shop with large selection of knitwear, marble, jewellery and other gifts. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Farmhouse accommodation available
