The Athenry Heritage Centre is the ideal starting place to discover the rich medieval history of Athenry, the best perserved medieval town in Ireland. History comes alive through interactive exhibits, dressing up a medieval costume and experience the thrill of have a go archery. All visitors recieve a personal tour of the centre which includes storyboard and audio-visual presenatations. The centre is also home to the towns original Mace & Seal, the oldest of their kind in Ireland. The exhibits within the centre include armour and weaponry, the models of Athenry as a walled town, the market square and the medieval dungeon. Visitors can enjoy additional attractions which include the wooden maze, the herb garden and the picnic area. The heritage Centre also provides audio hire and maps for the award winning architectural walking tour of Athenry which includes Athenry Castle, the North Gate and the Dominican Abbey. The Athenry Heritage Centre provides its visitors with an opportunity to experience history and learn more about ‘The Fields of Athenry’.
