This branch of the National Museum of Ireland houses the most wonderful collection of artefacts dating from 7000bc to the 20th Century, including the Ardagh Chalice, the Tara Brooch and the Derrynaflan Hoard. Special exhibitions include ‘Or - Ireland’s Gold’, a stunning collection of prehistoric gold ornaments, as well as ‘Prehistoric Ireland’ and ‘Viking Age Ireland’.Kingship & Sacrifice tells the story of Iron Bog Bodies and related finds while in ‘Medieval History 1150-1550’ life in later medieval Ireland is explored through surviving artefacts divided into three galleries, titled ‘Power’, ‘Work’ and ‘Prayer’. The Museum runs programmes for adults, families and schools to raise awareness of the Museum Collection. The programmes consist of talks, demonstrations as well as hands-on art and craft workshops. The Museum’s facilities include shop and café, audiovisual room and activity and resource room.
